Strategic Leadership and Unified Advocacy Workshop – Advancing a National Framework
The workshop was designed not to refine existing systems incrementally, but to reimagine what a modern, supportive national fire and emergency service framework should look like.
Orlando, Florida (February 2026), The Metro convened a landmark National Fire & Emergency Service Leadership Workshop on Strategic Leadership and Unified Advocacy, building directly on the 2025 Urban Fire Forum Position Paper, “Support for Advancing National Fire and Emergency Services Capabilities Through Strategic Leadership and Unified Advocacy.”

The Metro intentionally “opened its tent” to more than 40 senior leaders representing over 20 national organizations, major metropolitan fire departments, research institutions, and advocacy partners. The workshop was designed not to refine existing systems incrementally, but to reimagine what a modern, supportive national fire and emergency service framework should look like.
Discussions focused on clarifying federal roles, addressing existing gaps, and evolving unified advocacy efforts. Participants examined how a coordinated national infrastructure can strengthen state and local capabilities while preserving local authority and operational independence.
A formal update will be provided at the upcoming Metro Fire Chiefs Conference, with a final set of recommendations slated for release at the 2026 Urban Fire Forum. This effort reinforces Metro’s commitment to coordinated leadership, inclusive engagement, and a stronger national fire and emergency service system.
