National Recognition Highlights Metro Leadership Across the Fire Service

Philadelphia, PA (May 2026) The Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association was exceptionally well represented among the nation’s top public service leaders recognized through the “250 Champions” initiative by the National Academy of Public Administration and LocalGov250. Of the only ten fire service leaders honored nationwide, eight are Metro members, reflecting the organization’s continued influence and leadership across the American fire service. Recognized Metro members included Mary Cameli, Jaime Moore, John A. Donnelly, Sr., Otto Drozd III, Ernest Malone, Adam K. Thiel, Samuel Pena, and John S. Butler. Selected from hundreds of nominations across all 50 states and U.S. territories, the honorees were recognized for demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication to public service, and commitment to strengthening their communities and the fire and emergency services profession.

The IAFC represents the leadership of firefighters and emergency responders worldwide. IAFC members are the world's leading experts in firefighting, emergency medical services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, search and rescue, and public safety legislation. Since 1873, the IAFC has provided a forum for its members to exchange ideas, develop professionally and uncover the latest products and services available to first responders.

Known as the trusted source of safety knowledge, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has been helping to solve some of the planet’s toughest safety problems for more than 125 years. To remain relevant for over a century as a knowledge and information organization, we’ve continually evolved our scope of expertise—from fire prevention, wildfire preparedness, and electrical safety to hazardous materials, community risk reduction, and public safety.
