Metro Chiefs Honored During Guayaquil Fire Department’s 190th Anniversary Celebration

Guayaquil, Ecuador (September 2025) The Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association strengthened international ties within the fire service during the 190th Anniversary celebration of the Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de Guayaquil. Held at the Museo del Bombero Ecuatoriano “Jefe Félix Luque Plata,” the event recognized nearly two centuries of fire service tradition while highlighting global cooperation among emergency service leaders.

John Butler, President of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association, received the Guayaquil Fire Department’s “Distinguished Services” decoration in recognition of efforts to strengthen international collaboration and professional partnerships across the Americas. Members of the Houston Fire Department were also honored during the ceremony.

Metro Chiefs’ participation reflects the organization’s growing international engagement strategy and longstanding partnerships across Latin America, including collaboration with the Organización de Bomberos Americanos to advance training, leadership development, and regional disaster response.
