Metro Leaders Join European Fire Service Officials in Vienna to Advance Urban Resilience and Collaboration

VIENNA, Austria (November 2025)— Fire service leaders from Europe and North America gathered in Vienna for meetings of the Federation of European Fire Officers (FEU), focused on strengthening collaboration in urban risk management, resilience, and leadership development. Representing metropolitan fire service leadership were Metro President Chief John Butler and IAFC President Chief Trisha Wolford, who participated in discussions on enhancing transatlantic cooperation among fire service organizations.

Sessions addressed emerging challenges facing major cities, including climate-driven disasters, cyber threats, infrastructure failures, and increasingly complex urban emergencies. Leaders emphasized the importance of operational readiness, cross-sector coordination, and international knowledge sharing to strengthen community resilience.

The meetings reinforced the growing partnership between FEU, the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, highlighting a shared commitment to advancing global fire service leadership and preparedness.
